Knee Pain Relief Guide
Recover Faster with Chiropractic Care, Shockwave Therapy & Simple Home Exercises
Foundations Health & Wellness Chiropractic
Helping active adults move better, recover faster, and stay active.
Why Does My Knee Hurt?
Knee pain can develop from a variety of conditions, including:
Patellar tendonitis ("Jumper's Knee")
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome
Mild arthritis
IT Band Syndrome
Meniscus irritation (non-surgical cases)
Tendinitis
Muscle imbalances
Overuse injuries
Running or sports-related injuries
Many people try to simply rest the knee, but the underlying cause often remains untreated, allowing pain to return once activity resumes.
Our Treatment Approach
At Foundations Health & Wellness, we don't believe there is one solution for every patient.
Instead, we combine several treatments to improve healing and restore normal movement.
Chiropractic Care
The knee doesn't function independently.
Restrictions in the:
foot
ankle
hip
pelvis
lower back
can all change how forces are distributed through the knee.
Our chiropractic evaluation helps restore proper joint mechanics and improve overall movement.
Benefits include:
✔ Improved mobility
✔ Better movement patterns
✔ Reduced joint stress
✔ Improved recovery
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave Therapy uses acoustic pressure waves to stimulate your body's natural healing response.
It has been shown to help many chronic tendon and soft tissue conditions by:
improving blood flow
stimulating tissue repair
reducing pain
improving function
Common knee conditions treated include:
Patellar Tendonitis
Quadriceps Tendonitis
Mild Arthritis
Pes Anserine Pain
IT Band Syndrome
Chronic Knee Pain
Typical Treatment Plan
For mild to moderate knee pain, many patients improve with:
4–6 Shockwave treatments
Typical schedule:
1 treatment per week
approximately 5–10 minutes per session
combined with chiropractic care and corrective exercises
More chronic conditions may require additional visits depending on symptom duration and severity.
Healing Timeline
Every patient heals differently, but these are common expectations when treatment is started early and combined with appropriate exercises.
Condition Severity Expected Recovery
Mild knee irritation 2–4 weeks
Mild tendon irritation 4–6 weeks
Moderate tendon injury 6–10 weeks
Mild arthritis flare 4–8 weeks
Chronic knee pain (>6 months) 8–12+ weeks
Patients who consistently complete their home exercises and follow the recommended treatment plan often recover more quickly than those relying on rest alone.
Tips to Speed Recovery
Stay active without pushing through significant pain.
Avoid sudden increases in running or jumping activities.
Wear supportive footwear.
Perform your prescribed exercises consistently.
Ice the knee after activity if swelling is present.
Follow your recommended treatment schedule.
When Should You Seek Care?
You should schedule an evaluation if:
Knee pain lasts longer than 2 weeks.
Walking becomes difficult.
Pain keeps returning.
Your knee feels unstable.
Swelling continues despite rest.
Stairs become increasingly painful.
You want to avoid injections or surgery when appropriate.
Early treatment often leads to a faster recovery and can reduce the risk of a small problem becoming a long-term issue.
