Helping active adults move better, recover faster, and stay active.
Why Does My Shoulder Hurt?
Shoulder pain is one of the most common reasons people seek treatment. Whether your pain started suddenly or has gradually worsened over time, the shoulder is a complex joint that depends on healthy muscles, tendons, ligaments, and proper movement.
Common causes of shoulder pain include:
Rotator cuff tendinitis
Rotator cuff strain
Shoulder impingement syndrome
Biceps tendinitis
Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
Shoulder bursitis
Arthritis
Muscle strains
Overuse injuries
Sports injuries
Poor posture
Repetitive lifting
Many people try to simply rest their shoulder, but without addressing the underlying cause, pain often returns once normal activities resume.
Our Treatment Approach
At Foundations Health & Wellness, we don't believe there is one solution for every patient.
Instead, we combine several treatments to reduce pain, improve movement, and promote long-term healing.
Chiropractic Care
Shoulder pain isn't always caused by the shoulder itself.
Restrictions in the:
neck
upper back
ribs
collarbone
shoulder blade
can all affect how the shoulder moves.
Our chiropractic evaluation focuses on restoring proper joint mechanics and improving overall movement.
Benefits include:
✔ Improved shoulder mobility
✔ Better posture
✔ Reduced joint stress
✔ Improved range of motion
✔ Faster recovery
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave Therapy uses acoustic pressure waves to stimulate your body's natural healing response.
It is especially effective for chronic tendon injuries that haven't fully healed.
Shockwave Therapy helps by:
increasing blood flow
stimulating tissue repair
breaking the chronic pain cycle
improving shoulder function
Common shoulder conditions treated include:
Rotator cuff tendinitis
Calcific tendinitis
Shoulder impingement
Biceps tendinitis
Chronic shoulder pain
Typical Treatment Plan
For mild to moderate shoulder pain, many patients improve with:
4–6 Shockwave treatments
Typical schedule:
1 treatment per week
approximately 5–10 minutes per session
combined with chiropractic care and corrective exercises
More chronic conditions may require additional treatments depending on symptom duration and severity.
Dry Needling
Dry Needling targets painful muscle trigger points that commonly contribute to shoulder pain.
Many shoulder conditions involve tight muscles that continue pulling on injured tendons.
Dry Needling helps:
reduce muscle tension
improve blood flow
decrease pain
improve shoulder mobility
speed recovery
Muscles commonly treated include:
Upper Trapezius
Infraspinatus
Supraspinatus
Teres Minor
Deltoid
Pectoralis Major & Minor
Latissimus Dorsi
Dry Needling is often combined with chiropractic care and rehabilitation exercises for the best results.
Healing Timeline
Every patient heals differently, but these are common expectations when treatment is started early and combined with appropriate exercises.
Condition Typical Recovery
Mild muscle strain 2–4 weeks
Rotator cuff tendinitis 4–8 weeks
Shoulder impingement 4–8 weeks
Biceps tendinitis 4–8 weeks
Frozen shoulder Several months (varies)
Chronic shoulder pain 8–12+ weeks
Patients who consistently complete their home exercises and follow the recommended treatment plan often recover more quickly than those relying on rest alone.
Tips to Speed Recovery
Avoid repeatedly lifting overhead if it increases pain.
Maintain good posture while working and driving.
Perform your home exercises consistently.
Stay active within a comfortable range.
Ice the shoulder after activity if swelling is present.
Follow your recommended treatment schedule.
When Should You Seek Care?
You should schedule an evaluation if:
Shoulder pain lasts longer than 2 weeks.
You have difficulty reaching overhead.
Sleeping on your shoulder is painful.
Pain keeps returning.
You notice weakness in your arm.
Your range of motion continues to decrease.
You want to avoid injections or surgery when appropriate.
Early treatment often leads to a faster recovery and may prevent a minor injury from becoming a long-term problem.
